  Canine Gov Camp 2013

  I've been really pleased to support the advent of Island Gov Camp 2012. I'm particularly delighted that doing so means I get to return to Orkney next week. I'm a seasoned traveller and really enjoy sitting in the darkness of a Northlink Ferries dog kennel at every opportunity that comes my way.   I've been really pleased to support the advent of Island Gov Camp 2012.

  I'm particularly delighted that doing so means I get to return to Orkney next week. I'm a seasoned traveller and really enjoy sitting in the darkness of a Northlink Ferries dog kennel at every opportunity that comes my way. Here's hoping that Island Gov Camp will become an annual fixture!

  I wonder whether there's any appetite to run a Canine Gov Camp in 2013 to explore some of the social issues surrounding dogs in Britain today.

  For example, should dogs get bus passes? And if bipeds are expected to clear up after their dogs, who is expected to clear up after them as they seem to leave far more rubbish than I and my friends ever do.

  Could #IslandGovCamp meet #twicket ?

  With John Popham (of #twicket livecasting notoriety), Ken Eastwood and others planning to be in Orkney for #IslandGovCamp , and with a lively cricket scene in the county ( http://www.orkneycricket.org.uk/index.html ), the idea of what has been described as "an amateur knockabout" between Orkney and an #IslandGovCamp XI (or X, or IX, or VIII .. or however many can be mustered) has arisen.   With John Popham (of #twicket livecasting notoriety), Ken Eastwood and others planning to be in Orkney for #IslandGovCamp , and with a lively cricket scene in the county ( http://www.orkneycricket.org.uk/index.html ), the idea of what has been described as "an amateur knockabout" between Orkney and an #IslandGovCamp XI (or X, or IX, or VIII .. or however many can be mustered) has arisen.

  TIming, format, feasibility and wisdom are among the features of the idea yet to be assessed. There is, however, a suitable pitch at the Pickaquoy Centre in Kirkwall, http://www.pickaquoy.net/sport/awp , (albeit a pitch with an artificial surface) which may be available for booking.

  Input required:

  1.Do you think this idea is worth pursuing?

  2. What format should the match take, and how long (in hours) would it take to play?

  3. When could we play the match? Probably not Friday, Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning! (e.g. are you available for selection for a match in Kirkwall on Thursday afternoon/evening, Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon?)

  4. Do you bat, bowl, keep wicket, umpire, score or make teas?

  5. What would the pitch hire and any other costs be, and how would we fund the fixture?

  6. Could we live stream the match, if/when it happens?

  7. Could this become a regular fixture? (e.g. every 2 years or so?)
